Ben Rhodes does an excellent job of describing the challenges that Taiwan faces in trying to prevent an invasion by China.Īlthough an expert in national security but not known for being one on Taiwan, he did his homework here as well as an excellent job of listening to key people, most notably Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen, Foreign Minister Joseph Wu and Admiral Lee Hsi-Ming, who were all able to describe to the world the island, what makes its existence and history not so straightforward to understand, and why it matters for the U.S.
